Rebellious Adventurous Honeymoon Ideas

The most wonderful part about honeymooning is that you get to have some private time together once the crazy wedding preps is over. But when you go to the 'usual' honeymoon destinations, chances are -- there's a lot of people. Hence, the privacy is gone. Also, it seems more special to go somewhere that's not the typical trip don't you think? Here are some suggestions for the more rebellious adventurous honeymooners!

Phuket is a'typical' honeymoon idea. So what if you went here instead? ;)

"Escape to the natural wonders of Northern Thailand, just south of Burma and west of Laos, for an unforgettable experience. On our unique three- or four- night excursions at Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, you’ll have the adventure of a lifetime trekking elephants through lush jungle and spectacular mountain trails. Unwind in our superb luxury tented accommodations, which feature stunning views and handcrafted furnishings." ---http://www.fourseasons.com/goldentriangle/

Who says you have to go to Africa for an exotic safari adventure?

Speaking of the 'usual', Maldives is another usual idea. But good gracious the prices!
So what if you went here instead? ;)

"Located in a mature coconut grove fronting a crescent-shaped beach, Amanwella is a seaside resort offering 30 contemporary suites, each with private plunge pool and terrace. The resort’s suites are linked by pathways along a landscaped rise with beach and ocean views. Guests can relax on the expansive terrace surrounding the main pool or on the soft sand beach. The seaside town of Tangalle is situated nearby and a short stroll will reveal village life and Sri Lanka’s diverse flora and fauna."

To be quite honest, anyone who lives in the Philippines shouldn't really be honeymooning in some other country's beach/island because we already have the BEST at home. But if you MUST go, I'd recommend the Aman resort Amanwella in Sri Lanka over Maldives.

Why? Well for starters, it practically sits on the very same Indian Ocean where Maldives is but without the Maldives price.

Second of all, it's an AMAN resort but it's probably one of the most affordable Aman resorts in the world (Amanpulo is even more expensive!).

And third of all, you can visit the other Aman resort found in Sri Lanka called Amangalla which offers a whole other worldly experience.

"In the historic port of Galle, Amangalla sits within the ramparts of the 17th-century Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Named after the Sanskrit word for ‘peace’, and galla, the Sinhalese word for the town of Galle, the resort reveals the Fort’s daily activities and its rich legacy, the narrow streets lined with buildings from the Dutch and British colonial eras. Offering views of the resort’s 200-year-old gardens and of the Fort and harbour beyond, Amangalla provides for the leisurely exploration of this historic trading port and the surrounding countryside."

Another honeymoon idea that seems to be growing in popularity is New Zealand. But before you consider New Zealand, forget about the Lord of the Rings tours for a second, forget about the obvious choices like Auckland and live where Gandalf actor Sir Ian McKellan actually lives (during tapings)! Blanket Bay Baby!

"With its majestic mountains, green meadows, and gleaming lake, Blanket Bay in New Zealand offers beauty, charm, adventure, and scenery worthy of any Peter Jackson film"

What I love about Blanket Bay is their all-inclusive honeymoon package. For $5,000 (P200,000) you get a 6D/5N stay in one of their luxurious chalets or lodge, inclusive of breakfast, pre-cocktails, 5-course dinners for each night you are with them including a exclusive dinner in their Wine Cave, a private gourmet picnic for two, and access to all lodge activities. Now at face value the price seems pretty steep but when you begin to add the expenses if you were to do the same luxe style of a honeymoon somewhere else, it will probably even be much more expensive. The best part is, Blanket Bay only has about 12 rooms so it's privacy and exclusivity at its best.

"This Ultimate Alpine Honeymoon Package is all-inclusive. It features five nights’ in a luxury Lodge or Chalet Suite overlooking beautiful Lake Wakitapu and the high mountain peaks of the Humboldt Range. Flowers and Amisfield Arcadia Methode Traditionelle on arrival, all meals including each evening a five-course dinner in a choice of locations, plus a spectacular alpine gourmet picnic just for two are just some of the romantic inclusions. On one of the evenings a private candlelit dinner for the couple is served in Blanket Bay’s exclusive Wine Cave." --- http://blanketbay.com

"On the edge of New Zealand’s Mount Aspiring National Park Blanket Bay offers all the ingredients for the Ultimate Alpine Honeymoon. A short distance from Queenstown at Glenorchy, Blanket Bay is a sublime summer or winter honeymoon destination." --- http://blanketbay.com

"Share wild spectacular nature, quiet fire-side moments and fun times in the lap of luxury when honeymooning at exclusive Blanket Bay"--- http://blanketbay.com

A friend once posted on Facebook that she's traveled all over the world in search of other beaches that are better than what we have back home. But alas, she was unsuccessful. After searching far and wide, her conclusion is that  beaches are indeed more fun in the Philippines. With that being said, where to go if  Palawan, Boracay, or Batanes doesn't seem to tickle your fancy? How about a private island just for you?

Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort in the southern tip of Cebu is our latest discovery. Upon arrival in this island, my husband was so moved by the place that he literally said "Let's get married here" -- uh yes folks because of this a Round 4 is on the way haha! But before I divulge all the 411 on this island, watch out for our upcoming special exclusive report/feature on Sumilon coming this summer! :)

Looking for your adventurous, rebellious adventure? Word of advise? DITCH AGODA AND TRIPADVISOR. If you haven't known already, Agoda and Tripadvisor are rigged. Even if they deny this, I know of people who once worked in these sites and they have confeeeermd that so called "real-life reviews" are edited by hotel operators. If you are looking for the best places in the world, here are my favorite websites that rate hotels based on their own very high standards and taste.

One of my favorite sites is the Kiwi Collection. The Kiwi Collection prides itself for being the world’s largest and most diverse curated collection of luxury hotels.

"Our team of travel experts personally review each property and provide hotel recommendations you can trust. Also, hotels that fall below our rigorous standards are diligently removed. Today the Collection features 2537 hotels in 133 countries....Your cinephile pal gives you the 411 on what films are worth the 120 minutes. You mine the wine snob you know for the best Pinots (which you then pour for your friend in finance hoping his stock market tips pour out). The good news is, when it comes to travel, you’ve got a whole portfolio of pundits—The Kiwi Experts. Our collection curators, they pick the perfect properties for doing business, the hottest hotels for honeymooners and the best boutiques for design admirers." http://www.kiwicollection.com/

The best part? If you sign-up as a Kiwi member, you get the "Kiwi Advantage" which gives you exclusive deals and additional values if you book through them. And if you've got a Visa, you get even more benefits!

Another favorite of mine is hiphotels.com HIP stands for Highly Individual Places. True to its name, "it is an atlas of global opportunities; a worldwide guide to the kind of hotels we all want to find, if only we knew where to look. Unusual, unique, interesting, out of the way, and almost always charming, the places that HIP Hotels feature make travel what it should be, namely exciting and rewarding." -- www.hiphotels.com

Their well-made web layouts make you wanna escape, as if you were already on an adventure!

As in the Kiwi Collection, registration to become a HIP member provides deals and values for your trip.

There are those who would say that it's better to splurge on the honeymoon than the wedding itself--and I couldn't agree more! In fact, I know of couples who go on a honeymoon every year! And if you are now in search of the perfect honeymoon spot, consider being rebellious and adventurous with your choices. After all if you are planning to have babies soon, this might be your last exotic and thrilling discovery with the man you love.

Did you have an exotic adventurous honeymoon? Share it with us!

XOXO,
Kai
