Designer Spotlight: Poppy Dover


Today, we are happy to officially announce, that we are creating a dedicated category on the blog on all things WEDDING FASHION. In this new category, we will develop exclusive content that will focus on wedding style ideas for brides, grooms, the entourage, and even the guests. So stay tuned, rebels! Exciting times ahead. And what could be a better way to introduce this new category by finally publishing, our long overdue designer spotlight on bridal gown designer,  Poppy Dover. Shall we begin?

11 Rebellious Gowns from the Marriott Bridal Fashion Show

On July 19, the Marriott Hotel held its annual "Marry Me at Marriott" bridal fashion show, featuring collections from designers Mark Bumgarner, Francis Libiran, Ryan Madamba, and Cary Santiago. And it was rebellious.

No, we don't necessarily mean that the collection featured non-white gowns (because all the gowns were white), and they weren't avant garde either. What made the bridal collection rebellious in its entirety was the fact that all designers presented gowns that were wearable but unconventional. It was unconventional because all designers created gowns at different lengths,  they featured interesting embroidered pieces that weren't overtly screaming "bride",  all designers featured silhouettes that were absolutely refreshing, and all designers broke some kind of rule one way or another. For instance, there were no veils in sight--instead, most of the designers opted for caplets. Most designers also created gowns with skirts that had created its own drama that there seems to be no need of a traditional train.  The result was just spectacular because collectively, Bumgarner, Libiran, Madamba, and Santiago, redefined how a bride is expected to look--but the gowns were so wearable that not only would you want to wear it for your big day, but you'd find another occasion to wear it again and keep it forever.

Rebellious Bridal Style: OLIVIA


Occasionally, we blog on simply a bride's style. Zeroing in on how a bride can rebelliously think of a cohesive style that is of course non-traditional, or a bride that chooses color palettes that are refreshing to see, or a bride that is rebellious enough to make her entourage look just as stunning as she is. Lately, I'm feeling like we need to do this more often so that we can inspire more brides to rebel against the usual looks/fashion. And speaking of rebel looks, here's one from a random photo shoot that Quirky Creatives made for Raf & Olivia--this is NOT a wedding nor a prenup photo okay? It was a random pictorial done during a fashion event. But I wanted to feature this because we love NONE-bridal pegs remember? ;)

I love Oliva's Ryan Madamba gown, don't you? I think it makes for an awesome anti-white bridal gown idea! The structure of the dress is so flattering, and the way Olivia looks just completes the look so well.
