The Lucky Ones

"I guess what makes our wedding rebellious is we did not go with ‘what’s in’ nor believed in ‘bad luck’. Cheesy as it may sound, if you love each other, nothing will ruin your wedding day. Marriage is a beautiful thing and if you believe that out of the billion people in this world, you end up with that one person, then nothing is luckier than that!"
- Rebellious Bride Maribonn

Planning a wedding is challenging as it is. What more when you feel like you have to tiptoe your way around superstitions and traditions that don't even make sense to you.

So at the end of the day, Maribonn and Reuel decided to just loosen up a bit, have fun creating their wedding their way, and just run away with it.

The couple had their engagement session at Henry Hotel -- one of our most favorite hotels in Manila for sure. Then for the wedding they incorporated these creative, thoughtful, little details that spoke so much of their aesthetics, and then for their post-wedding session they did it in Chicago where they are based, to tie everything together.

The Story of Veluz

It has been a longtime tradition for W@W (Weddings at Work) to mount a Video Fest for Philippine Wedding Suppliers who single-handedly revolutionized weddings one way or another. This original tradition is one that almost all wedding enthusiasts in the country enjoy--from when the handpicked list of filmmakers are made known to the general public, to when the themes/topics have been identified for them, from the time they post their BTS shoots, when the posters are launched, leading all the way up to the private screenings at Rockwell, and the after-party. It is an unprecedented event that only a true institution like W@W can really pull-off.

A Secret Submission For My Wife

Dear Rebellious Brides,

You probably get close to no emails from grooms but I want to do this for my wife. During our entire wedding preparation, we have abused your website through and through. From discovering our suppliers to wedding tips to just simply getting inspiration to the most important day of our lives. She does not know I sent this submission...Also, we found Bob Nicolas on your website....Since then, we never looked at any other videographer other than Bob. So if our wedding will end up in your website, I think my wife would faint. Haha! I'm trying my luck since our civil anniversary is coming up and I know this is what she (secretly) wants.

But featured or not, we thank you for putting this website. It greatly helped us and calmed my wife during her most stressful times.

More power!

Rebellious Couple Ryan & Kitin's 'Untemplated' SDE

Time and time again, couples fall into the trap of relying on their photographers/videographers to make their wedding look unique/dramatic/epic. What couples don't realize is that your team is simply reflecting back what you are giving to them. It's a duet. It's a tango. It's creative collaboration. And Ryan & Kitin's SDE is a great example of that. I absolutely love this video. It is part Bob Nicolas but part Ryan & Kitin. Ultimately, that's what makes this video rebellious and charming. The best part is that the groom has equal billing--maybe even more billing haha. But it's a refreshing take. After all, it's not just the bride who is getting married!

Watch out for the additional incredible details that the video captured--don't you guys just love how their wedding logo is so unique? That instead of the usual initials, they played on the fact that Ryan tiptoes? And what about that reception entrance? Loving all the twists! :)

Ryan shares:

"We wanted an SDE that will be different from all the others that we have seen. Of course each video is unique in their own way since each couple is different but we wanted to change the usual format a little bit. We wanted a traditional wedding but at the same time, put twists in the highlights. When we met with Bob, I was hesitant to pitch to him my concept because seeing the portfolio of his excellent videos, I was not sure if he would like what we have planned. Surprisingly, he was laughing when he heard what we wanted to happen and he got excited. He said that he thinks it was the first time this kind of SDE will be done and he is more than willing to shoot it for us. Hence, the result. We wanted to show in this video how being funny can be sweet at the same time. :)"

"I've always been that girl who doesn't want to blend. I want to be different without being tacky. And that's exactly what I did for my wedding :)"

- Rebellious Bride Sigrid Eduardo-Alindogan on what makes her a Rebellious Bride

You might recognize Dra. Sigrid from the Tattoos and Angels Prenup feature we've had a couple of weeks ago. And we wanted to dedicate a separate feature on Sigrid's anti-white gown and her entourage styling because we applaud how she was able to implement her ideas despite the fact that her husband comes from a traditional family.

For one thing, her gown is just absolutely breathtaking! And this is just one of the best examples of how going anti-white can just be as beautiful and just as bridal-worthy. She also had a black & pink dress code for her entourage--and while this combo can be tricky, she also managed to execute this together with her designer, with class and sass.

Road trip Prenup Session

I just love the idea and the overall tone of this road trip prenup session. There's just something naturally cool about it. No overly done cheesy poses, no overly done drama, no overly done styling, no overly done camera tricks. Just pure fun, pure groove.

Here's what Rebellious Bride Chloe had to say about their prenup:

Rebellious Couple - Lyanne & Winchester: A Teaser

Let's move on to our regular rebellious program, shall we? Amidst all the drama in the blog this week, it's the super nice and pleasant direct emails we receive from our Rebellious Brides that we love the most. Rebellious Bride Lyanne, has been sending us details of her rebellious prenup and wedding, and her emails are always so polite! Love it!

With a prenup that involves Victoria Court, and with intricate Old Glam/Hollywood wedding ideas, the colors and the details of this rebellious wedding are just really dramatic and vibrant!

As we sort out the goodies that Lyanne sent us, we wanted to start the entire love story first with the wedding video itself. Enjoy :)

Rebellious Celebrity Bride - Jolina Magdangal

Jolina Magdangal has got to be one of the quirkiest local celebrities around. That's why her wedding was something to definitely look forward to. And since the wedding will have a special episode on GMA 7 this December 4, naturally, most of the official wedding details are still kept under wraps. But in our effort to find as much details about this rebellious wedding as much as we can, here are some of the things that we were able to get for you!

Rebellious Details from the Jolina + Mark Weddings:

1. The bride had TWO weddings  - In the couple's effort to marry tradition with their dream wedding, the couple first had an intimate church wedding with just their immediate families at Madre de Dios (Tagaytay Midlands). In the first wedding, the bride wore a PINK off-the-rack, short dress (LOVE THIS!), styled with a white veil. The second wedding, was a "hippie picnic"-themed wedding, and the bride wore a wreath veil, a DIY pair of bridal shoes, and fairy wings during the reception.

2. The bride FOUGHT for her dream wedding -- ever since she was just a child, she dreamed of a wedding where her ceiling would literally be the heavens--and it was non-negotiable. The couple executed it so beautifully!
