The Details That Matter

When you look at Pao & Den's Ian Cruz Wedding Video, you might ask me why we chose to feature it in the blog--the wedding doesn't seem rebellious in the most obvious of details. But it did in the details that mattered.

It was in the way that Ian told the story--and how he best captured it with the bride. It was in the sweetest, most creative proposal. It was in the groom--not only in his outfit but in his own little quirks (including fake-tripping in the video). It was in the beautiful bride not just her fabulous gowns but in how she professed her love. It was in the perfect setting, in the most perfect cone in the world as the backdrop. Enjoy!

The Navins

A couple of days ago, photographer Nelwin Uy re-posted the wonderful gay marriage he did in Sonoma, Californa two years ago. It was Nelwin's own way of paying a tribute and he wrote "victory for gay rights in the US!". But back home, coincidentally on the same day that Nelwin posted this wedding, GMA 7 was put on the microscope because of the sensational primetime series, My Husband's Lover. The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), through its spokesperson was clearly against the show. The good part was that it made more people watch the show but on the downside, some advertisers shied away from supporting the program through commercial spots.


We've always been a supporter of any kind of love in this blog--and most especially the ones that are fighting for a good cause--whether it's as petty as just fighting for the kind of gown you want--to the downright serious such as fighting for gay marriage. In My Husband's Lover's FB page, they called for love instead of hate. What's not to love? Let's look at The Navin's beautiful wedding--the rain and the rainbow made it even more poetic. Enjoy!

The Pre Prom Shoot

I really fell in love with this idea that's why we decided to share them to all of you even if it's not a wedding. One of the saddest memories I had of my own prom was not having our pictures taken (even if I already paid for it) because we were late and by the time we arrived, the photographers already packed up. And then during our senior ball, yes we were early but gosh the photos were horrible--so cheesy and very generic. The prom and the elements that comprises the prom is only decided by the prom committee---the venue, the concept, and all the other elements are not anymore relayed to the whole body. At least that's how I remembered it--so naturally, the prom elements are not necessarily the majority's choice--so what if the ideas aren't really your 'thing'?


So the way that Caileigh, Brittany, Wendy, Kimberly, Denise, and Kathryna managed to rebelliously create their own shoot before the prom was absolutely brilliant because at least they were still able to personalize their prom, their own way. What's more, I love that the girls kept it natural and fresh--the obvious choice was to glam it up a'la Gossip Girl or whatever it is that teens nowadays are into but they decided not to! And for that I admire that the girls chose to be around a beautiful garden. It's a simple idea but it just had the right hint of fun.

Inspiration from the 'Little Folk'

Can you believe that this rebellious, brilliant idea came from a 14-year old artist??? Zev Hoover showcases in his Flickr account Fiddle Oak, a concept which he fondly calls 'Little Folk'--a collection of his work where he makes his subjects look like tiny figures and places them in whimsical settings.  I cannot even begin to think how this talented artist managed to create such magical things at such a young age!


Just throwing it out there but why don't you try to contact the artist? What if he could create an amazing layout for you and your groom? You can commission Zev and you can use the work as your save the date, or in replace of an invitation, or how about as a photo wall backdrop? Or maybe even as your couple's backdrop/wall? The possibilities are endless and there's no harm in trying either!

Today's formula for a rebellious wedding:

REBEL + INSPIRATIONS = POWERFUL WORDS
Do not underestimate the power of words. And do not underestimate looking beyond the usual wedding sites. Sometimes, you will find the freshest ideas in a non-wedding setting. 

So how about filling up your venue with these feel-good signage for your guests? It would be awesome if they can take it home as well. Or use these as inspiration boards or even as elements in your quirky wedding's look book.

Kirby & Camille's Great Gatsby Prenup

When we did a little random 2013 forecast for weddings, we said that there was going to be a re-ignited interest on the Roaring 20s because of Baz Luhrman's Gatsby Movie. And here we are today, 3 features later--we've seen a slew of 20s/Gatsby-themed parties cropping up, and now a prenup!
