Proof that Philippine Engagement Sessions are Uber Creative

There are engagement sessions, and then there's Philippine-made engagement sessions.

You only need to Google "engagement photos" to see what  conventional engagement photos look like. Basically you'll get prom-like lovey dovey, cheesy photos that are set in gardens and other natural scenery. Worse, some photos are not even of good quality. And while there's completely nothing wrong with those types of engagement photos, you really have to hand it to Philippine wedding artists (and couples) for daring to push the envelope.  Because if you haven't known this already, Philippine-made engagement photos/concepts are outstandingly innovative, compelling, and can even be unnerving at times.

Over the past six years, we've seen how engagement photos have evolved. And we understand why most Filipinos not only would want to have an engagement session, but would be compelled to make it big, bold, and beautiful. On the part of the couples, the allure of a crazy prenup might stem from the fact that Philippine Weddings are traditional, strict, and conventional--oftentimes dictated by parents.  And so an outrageous engagement session gives the couples a chance to kind of have fun and show their rebellious side. It balances things out, so to speak. On the other side of the spectrum, wedding artists like to do these creative sessions because it helps them to build a relationship with their couples before the wedding and at the same time, it keeps their creative juices running full as it can often get drained by the weekly repetitive grind of covering church weddings.

Here we have 20 engagement sessions that show you just how "Out of this World" engagement shoot concepts in the Philippines can get.  Sometimes the ideas come from the couples themselves to reflect their personalities or to reflect their love story. And on the other times the e-session ideas are proposed by the wedding team themselves to fulfill a creative fantasy project. Seriously 20 examples are not even enough! And just a disclaimer, this is not a contest or a ranking of the top e-sessions out there. Instead, this is a collective appreciation of how  Philippine wedding artists and couples have creatively grown through the years. So here they are. Which one is your favorite?

The Rebellious Brides 3.0 Edition of Romeo + Juliet

If Romeo + Juliet met in 2015, will they end up killing themselves in the name of love? The answer is NO. Because Juliet would be empowered enough to fight for her freedom, truth, and love.

Biyahe ni Drew at Iya

There's nothing quite like a
Jason Magbanua x MangoRed
tandem wedding *wink*

And there's nothing quite like the love of Iya and Drew either.

They are literally the living proof that network wars can and need to be defied. That more beauty, creativity, and rebelliousness can come out of a union this amazing.

What a way to start the morning. Jason is at it again. My heart is skipping in so many beats. The prenup...the wedding. Oh that cliff hangin', heart thumpin' ceremony venue!!!

Watch the wedding film here:

And watch the cool prenup here:
(epitome of cool so there's really no truer adjective to describe it!)

Iya & Drew

Wedding aficionados and showbiz fans are definitely on a stand still as MangoRed, Jason Magbanua, and RabbitHole Creatives have been teasing us with Iya & Drew goodness over the weekend. All roads will definitely lead to MangoRed's website as they've announced that official prenup photos are gonna be up anytime soon. There's early indications that the wedding was quite rebellious--from the rebel bride's fierce Pepsi Herrera gown, to the cliff hanging ceremony, and down to the amazing styling.

PS. I love the reference to Drew's GMA News TV show as MangoRed entitled the teaser prenup: "Biyahe ni Drew & Iya" ;)

Wicked 18

There are rare occasions when we can't help but feature non-wedding life events, particularly debuts and proms. Sometimes, there's so much more richness and more rebelliousness when you plunge into the minds of the younger generation. A little less predictable, a little less contrived. Just the way we like 'em. Alecx is probably one of the most exciting debutantes we've seen yet. There's nothing quite like this set, folks.

Diana & Arch's Love Myths Prenup

"Love is Blind"
Photography by Nice Print

Diana shares: 2 years ago, when people asked me about Arch, I answered, "He’s my ABCD --- Ang Bagong Constant Date." I was totally clueless that we’d leap from Exclusively Dating to Engaged! So when he popped the question, I was crying uncontrollably, and then asked him back, “Tayo na?!”

True enough, true love can be unconventional, and that’s what we wanted to depict in our Pre-nuptial Shoot: DEFY LOVE MYTHS.

Karla + Earl's Meteora Prenup

Photography by Jayson and Jo Anne Arquiza

While answering an email from an RB reader who was seeking our recommendations for intimate wedding venues near Cavite, one of the suggestions that we made was Meteora Tagaytay. And while we were looking for reference links that we could provide to our reader, we stumbled upon this romantic prenup from Jayson and Jo Anne Arquiza that we couldn't resist sharing with you all. Here's another example of a "Classic w/ a Twist" type of prenup. Karla & Earl's prenup was a rebellious idea in a sense that it had the vibe of a love nest. But then with the tasteful hands of Jayson & Joanne plus the eye of RabbitHole Creatives, the look became quite timeless---evoking feelings of a getaway trip to the South of France. Here's more!

Kirby & Camille's Great Gatsby Prenup

Photography by RedSheep
When we did a little random 2013 forecast for weddings, we said that there was going to be a re-ignited interest on the Roaring 20s because of Baz Luhrman's Gatsby Movie. And here we are today, 3 features later--we've seen a slew of 20s/Gatsby-themed parties cropping up, and now a prenup!

Dani & Paolo's Museo Pambata Prenup

"In real life, we're probably as
'un-rebellious' as you can get"
---Dani shares with us in her email. We think otherwise though.
Photography by MangoRed

Dani & Paolo may think they are not rebellious but any couple who is unafraid to work w/ the ultimate topak tandems MangoRed + RabbitHole Creatives--to know that things can get out of hand? Well...that's pretty rebellious in our books! And crazy is probably even a 'tame' word to use in describing this shoot.

Dani writes: "Is it counted as rebellious when there's obviously a theme for the shoot but you can't seem to describe what that theme is? :) Monsters? Childhood play? Marching band? We can't quite put our finger on it but what we were going for was colorful, lively, festive, with a touch of the kind of madcap fun you can only have when you're below the age of ten! We think all of our suppliers fit the bill with the kind of shoot we had in mind."

Jon & Patti's Aracama+Prive Prenup

Photography by MangoRed
When MangoRed posted their latest prenup set, we couldn't be happier that it had the same spirit of our Rebellious Prenup Workshop blog post that talks about the three basic elements that can make any prenup concept classic w/ a twist: 1) A restaurant venue; 2) Loud elements; and 3) Investing in a good photographer.

Jon & Patti's prenup had all these 3 elements and more. The prenup venues were made at resto/bars'  Aracama & Prive; the loud elements comprised not just interesting laidback outfits but also amazing calligraphy and conceptual photo montages; and not only did they get MangoRed to do the shoot but they also teamed up with a brilliant creative team! The result is nothing short of a twisted prenup set. No lovely dovey poses here. Just sheer hotness and understated urban artistry. Enjoy!
