A Mockingjay Editorial Wedding

In just six more months, the Hunger Games movie series closes to an end with Mockingjay Part 2.
And we reckon that a proper tribute of the rebel kind is in order.

If you have read the Mockingjay, you would know that the story of Katniss and Peeta sort of jumps into a Prologue that just kind of assumes that they got married and have a family of their own. This is our own attempt at filling-in the gap and giving our favorite tributes from District 12 a proper wedding.

In this faux wedding, we thought it would be fitting of Katniss’ personality to keep it intimate—an elopement if you will. However, Katniss would have admitted to herself that she would need to enlist the help of Effie to plan and style the wedding. Only Effie would have been invited in the wedding which she would also gladly volunteer to officiate herself.

Join The Rebellion! Be a "Mockingjay Bride"

I've been a huge dorky fan of the Hunger Games Series for as long as I can remember--even before the movie hype kicked-off. In fact, our Hunger Games Wedding Idea has been one of our most popular posts of all time. I have come to love the book for what it stands for--it is after all, about a rebellion *wink* and at the helm of that rebellion is the rebellious symbol that is the Mockingjay, Katniss Everdeen. Poised to have a rebellious streak of her own, Jennifer Lawrence has been promoting Catching Fire all over the world in various rebellious Christian Dior pieces. She has since proved that as a Hollywood actress, she can have her own unique style that is quite refreshing to see on the red carpet. How inspired it would be if a rebellious bride would follow her footsteps and walk down the aisle in a wicked bridal gown! Here are some of my faves!

Perfect for an anti-reception
kind of wedding

Perfect for a brunch,
tea-time kind of wedding

Perfect for a glam hotel kind of wedding

Perfect for a beach kind of wedding -- wouldn't it be ahhhmazing to see this unexpected gown in Boracay?

Have you watched the movie yet? Three words: YOU HAVE TO.

The Hunger Games Parody - A Rebellious Couple's Entrance

First of all guys, I can't believe this entry went directly to our spam folder. It was submitted by Rebellious Bride Nadelyn a couple of weeks back and this is the only time we've seen it! Lesson learned folks, this happens once in a while so if you have submissions you may want to re-send it especially if you haven't received a reply from us :)

But better late than never right? I AM IN LOOOOOVE WITH THIS COUPLE'S ENTRANCE!!! I am completely blown away by the meticulous production details courtesy of Sequence by Sequence!

So let's all watch it now and read what the bride had to say about this video!

Happy Hunger Games :)

Hi Rebellious Brides!

I know you featured twice The Hunger Games as a wedding theme in your blog. So we just want to share with you our opening video before our grand entrance to the reception. It also became our engagement video.

Hunger Games DIY Ideas

Vera Wang's Bridal Red Gowns & the release of the Hunger Games DVD (I'm watching it now!) have inspired me to create another Hunger Games Wedding post.

Since the movie was released, and since our first attempt at conceptualizing an HG-themed wedding, a lot of DIY ideas have surfaced the web.

Here are just some of my personal favorites!

Rebellious Idea - The Hunger Games Wedding

The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
Here's a new rebellious wedding idea that I'd love to see soon! If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend that you do before the movie comes out on March 23, 2012. And if you are not the type to read books, I also highly recommend that this be your first book because it's very easy to read (the first two books can easily be read in 1 or 2 days tops, with very few pages and nicely spaced) and the book itself is quite addicting!

What makes Hunger Games the perfect rebellious wedding idea is that the book itself is about a rebellion!

Tibi's sktech of Katniss' Fire Dress
Tibi designer Amy Smilovic describes the book's lead character Katniss Everdeen as a "strong and rebellious female character" and we couldn't agree more. What's more, apart from the book being about a rebellion, oddly enough it is also about fashion statements and the very excessive Capitol which makes it a very graphic and outrageous wedding element that can give your wedding that extra oomph.

The wedding ideas you will see below are taken from several references to the books and on what we've seen in the movie promotional materials so far. I was thinking of making it more cohesive with just focusing on District 12, or just the Capitol but I figured it would be crazier to just have like a Hunger Games mash-up of a wedding! For those of you who can't quite follow the terms and ideas explained here, I will try to be as "non-Hunger Games-reader-friendly" but I have 3 words for you: READ THE BOOK :)

Let the wedding games begin! :)

THE FASHION

The Bride as Katniss Everdeen
Tadashi Shoji sketch from In Style

Katniss Everdeen, or widely referred to as "The Girl on Fire", had the most memorable transformation from the tomboyish District 12 impoverished hunter to a formidable femme fatale force to reckon with when her designer Cinna decided to literally light her on fire during the Hunger Games Opening Ceremonies at the Capitol. And although she was primarily in unitard during the ceremonies, designer Tadashi Shoji interpreted the "Fire Dress" as a red-carpet look with shades of yellow, orange, and red which I think would have the same dramatic effect if walked down the aisle. *Keep on reading!
