Simply Toni & Paul

Toni and Paul's wedding was clearly rebellious in so many ways. We'd  probably call it an "un-celebrity wedding". From the fact that the bride did her preps at home, to her understated Vera Wang gown (that seemed to transform its colors into a pale kind of blush when hit by the perfect lighting), to how the bride was so secure of herself that she didn't seem to mind sharing the limelight with her maid-of-honor and sister, to the fact that the main entourage consisted of both the couple's immediate families, to Toni's very original grand bridal entrance, to the very fact that they chose Metrophoto to do their wedding photography, oh we could go on and on and on. But those are mostly the 'superficial' ways this wedding could be classified as creative and downright rebellious.

On a deeper level, this was so different because this was a couple who seemed to have defied many impressions. It was also a wedding that focused on the two most important things often overlooked by all the hullabaloo that goes on in a wedding: the ceremony and the people who witness it.

So cheers to Toni and Paul. Like every other couple, this day was about love and taking the leap of faith. But unlike other couples, this was a wedding that definitely didn't conform - a reflection of how rebelliously perfect they really are together.

10 Rebellious Bridal-Worthy Looks from the Oscars

For as long as I can remember, I was not the type of girl who would look at bridal looks for wedding inspirations. In fact, my ultimate bridal peg when I was wedding planning was Drew Barrymore's Dior Gown from the Golden Globes.

Since we've pretty much established in this blog that Rebel Brides lust for bridal gowns that are not necessarily white and not necessarily made from the usual bridal gown materials (aka swarovksi, frou frou, cathedral train...and more swarovski, frou frou, cathedral train REPEAT), we think that instead of just wedding magazines, Rebel Brides can also ogle at red carpet looks. And the Oscars is the best reference for that. Here are the Top 10 Oscar looks that we think are Rebellious Bridal-Worthy for you no matter what your bridal/wedding personality is.

The Year of Color

Gown by Stella de Libero / As Seen on Wedding Inspirasi
Three years ago when we created our blog, one of our first few posts already rallied to go for colored gowns. To be more specific, we entitled the entry "Anti-White" and it was our 9th post in the blog. This has always been one of our "propaganda movements."

Over the past few years since that post, we've been so overjoyed to see the same battle cry from fashion heavyweights the likes of Vera Wang. So when the folks over at Simply Bridal shared with us their 2014 Fearless Forecast, we couldn't be happier. According to Simply Bridal, they predict that 2014 is DEFINITELY the year for colored gowns. So in support of their forecast, we've scoured the web to also give you sample gowns based on their forecast. Enjoy! :)

Simply Bridal says: 2014 is the year of going against the grain with weddings, especially when it comes to color! Instead of traditional white wedding gowns, brides will select colored gowns to show off their unique style and personality. Here's some of the hottest hues for wedding dresses and what they say about you:

Bride on Fire

Photography by Pat Dy

When RB Mica blogged about Vera Wang's Red Bridal Collection, we have since been hoping that a real bride would have the guts to wear one. And here we are at last. When photographer extraordinaire Pat Dy shared this on Instagram, we knew we had to have this on the blog. But it's not just the bridal gown that was on fire, really. It was in the couple's embraces, their stolen moments, and in their wickedly New York wedding.

Vera Wang Says, "Think Pink"

"Pink as sensual, pink as seductive, pink as dreamy, pink as sophisticated, pink as strong, pink as cool. Think pink!" - www.verawang.com

When we started the blog a few years back, we were so excited that it coincided with Vera Wang's Gray/Black Bridal Collection. Then last year, she set everything on fire with her Red Bridal Collection. Then a few months back, her Punk Rock Bridal Collection. And here she is again, snubbing white, this time in favor of Pink. (Sidenote: I can't help but be proud though, that even before this "trend", I wore a Tadashi pink gown in our church wedding way back in 2011).

Inspired by Audrey Hepburn's "Funny Face", "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", and even Mr. Christian Dior himself, Vera Wang says that pink flatters every body and skin type and she showcased her POV in different shades from peony to coral. *Swoon*

Pia + Shuni's Shabby Chic & Mask Fair Wedding

Photography by We Do It For Love

As I was looking through Pia and Shuni's wedding photos, I was immediately taken and impressed by how unique their wedding details were. They actually call their theme shabby chic--but as you will see in this feature, they managed to create such an uncommon interpretation to an otherwise common theme. The wedding felt fun, playful, whimsical, magical, imaginative, and nostalgic as if it were a children's book made to come alive. At the same time, the couple made the whole wedding festivities feel like a private mask fair with many interactive ideas and decorations. Just goes to show that there's still MORE to shabby chic than meets the eye and it's so much fun to create your own wedding rules!

Pia & Shuni definitely knew how to curate and edit old ideas from new ones and the result of which is a wedding that we've never seen before! This is definitely one of the most charming rebellious weddings we've seen so far this year :)

Vanessa + Gerard's Mango Farm Wedding

Photography by J Lucas Reyes
It's always exciting when the artists from our Rebellious Bunch List has a new set. And J Lucas Reyes is no exception to that. When you have a wedding in an enchanting place such as Mango Farm, there really is no need to create a theme because that's already your theme right there.

Nature is the most wonderful backdrop in the world. But most people are too distracted with shiny, fancy things that we often forget about the organic goodness that surround us. And it is because of this conformity that makes green advocates the rebellious ones.
And so we celebrate Vanessa and Gerard for choosing to have a natural wedding such as theirs. And we equally applaud their awesome wedding team for executing it so perfectly.

J shares in his blog: "I’ve always thought I’d only see a laid back, magical garden ceremony somewhere in the hills of Napa Valley or Sonoma County, only to discover one unfolding here right in the middle of the hills of Antipolo."

Rebellious Revenge/Grayson Wedding

Here's a treat for all you Revenge fans out there. The other day, the queen of the Hamptons Victoria Grayson renewed her vows in a gray Vera Wang gown. Her style was as always, fabulous as she adorned herself with pearls upon pearls around her neck and both of her wrists.

Victoria sure loves her parties and her invitations! Last season she had a red box invitation for Emily & Daniel's  Fire & Ice engagement party and now for her wedding she opted for the same box but this time in a chic robin's egg shade.

Boxed invitations are wonderful! Here are other ideas that we've found over the web:

During the wedding, my eyes immediately zeroed in on the bouquet! Victoria Grayson is one rebellious bride! She topped off her gray pearls and Vera Wang with a unique black calla lily bouquet.

And while we are already on the subject of Revenge, here are more style inspirations from the show that are wedding-worthy!

Would You Buy A Recycled Gown?

Would you buy this gorgeous Vera Wang gown for $950 (P39,000)? The catch is, it's USED.
Had I known of this service before, then yes. Maybe I would consider buying a recycled gown. I'd buy one and get to know the previous owner. I'll try to find out about her own wedding and ask for a photo. I'd create a blog about it and call it, the sisterhood of the traveling bridal gown haha. Mica and I were so attracted to this US-based business idea called the "Recycled Bride" website so much that we even thought of creating a local version of it. But alas, based on our research, Pinay brides are not willing to give up their gowns--even if it meant it will eventually turn moldy.

Here are some of the gems I found over at Recycled Bride. And I am curious to know...are you rebellious (and practical) enough to buy a fabulous recycled bridal couture gown?

This Monique Lhuillier Geisha Gown runs in a Size 10 for $500. It is owned by a bride from Atlanta and she bought her gown for $2,800 at the Monique Lhuiller Chicago boutique. She's selling her gown because she needs the cash asap.

The bride is selling her classic cathedral Vera Wang gown made of 100 yards of tulle for only $600. The catch? She's a size 0.

The bride is selling her Monique Lhuillier Size 8 Jacqueline gown for $800. The bride asserts that her gown is in mint condition and she only wore it once during her wedding day last May. The best part is? It's a two-piece gown so you can wear the gorgeous blouse separately.
This Vera Wang gown is Size 6 and runs for $500. Apart from the fact that it is used, it is sold by a store in New York. The catch is, you can't buy it online. You have to visit their store.

Rebellious Bride Mariel's Wedding Style

Photography by Cherryblocks
In the sea of the usual color combinations used for entourage gowns, I just find Rebellious Bride Mariel's pink & orange wedding style for her entourage such a breath of fresh air

I also love Mariel's "White w/ a Twist" Vera Wang gown which looked even more modern with how Mariel paired it with a statement bangle piece!

When we previously wrote about colored bridal gowns (read anti-white), we didn't have enough local references to create a stronger case for those of you out there who are still not convinced with this rebellious plan. But now we'd like to share with you, other real-life brides who have actually donned anti-white gowns!

Vera Wang goes Rebelliously Black

Special thanks to our reader, and twitter follower Candy for the tweet tip :)

We have a cause for celebration today. Guess what? Vera Wang shows off her black bridal gowns for 2012's Bridal Season!

Lifted from Racked.Com

We love that Vera Wang is putting it out there that there is nothing wrong with being a Rebellious Bride. She fought for it in her previous fashion shows (visit our Anti-White blog) and she's still putting a good fight. And we love her for it.

When J Lucas Reyes saw me during our Brunch shoot, 5 hours before our second wedding, he took one look at my pink gown and said "Crazy. You're so anti-wedding!"

Even before my first wedding in Boracay, I already knew that I was not going to be destined for a white wedding gown. There was one time in college, when out of curiosity I bought a wedding magazine and my friends and I looked at every page, and I announced to them, I won't wear white when my time comes. My friends tried to convince me otherwise. They said, it's the only chance you'll ever get to wear a white gown! My only thought balloon was, was wearing a white gown a milestone in life? Because from what I could recall, you already had to wear a white gown during baptism, and a white dress during your first communion--isn't that enough?!?!?
