Boracay Weddings – Post Closure Update

Photography by Mayad Studios / Styling by Teddy Manuel / HMUA by The Makeup Studio Boracay by Madge Lejano / Coordination by Events by Amanda Tirol
/ Wedding Venue by Shangri-La Boracay

In 2018, President Duterte mandated a rehabilitation program for the island of Boracay which kicked off with a 6-month closure, with a full completion still looming ahead. As of this writing (April 2019), the island is on soft opening and still looks pretty raw. There are demolished buildings (that look like war-torn scenes from a movie) fully exposed on the beach, the government not even covering it up like it is some sort of sinister warning. Meanwhile, at the back of the beach, it is filled with construction work--the dust mixing in with the salty and hot air.

Rebellious Bride Ihna

Rebellious Bride Ihna had a few tricks up her sleeve. She literally changed the rules of what "Reception Look" truly means by asking her HMUA team to chop her hair off to a short layered bob immediately after the wedding ceremony.

Ihna and Ron's wedding is proof that all you need to make a wedding memorable is for you guys to be yourselves and show your personalities. Congrats to Ihna and Ron! You guys are so much fun!

PS.  "Bacon bouquet" for the win!

Rebellious Bride Kitchie

She wore an $18 wedding dress, had 15 guests, but got MangoRed and Jason Magbanua to immortalize her beautiful wedding day. Rebellious Bride Kitchie just encapsulated the kind of wedding and the kind of principles that we've been bombarding you with for the past 3 years. What more is there to say?

Palawan Safari Engagement

"We are proud that we’ve significantly stretched the limitations of how pre-wedding photoshoots are done and we hope that this also paves the way to more people thinking big and outside of the box."

The Blueprint Bouquet

Here's a perfect example of how you can take a very masculine theme like "construction" and make it look crazy beautiful. I can't wait to see the rest of this construction themed wedding! The bouquet below was made by no less than Teddy Manuel.

This non-floral bouquet is made from Blueprint paper and metal wires!

If you find a woman who is rebelliously game enough to have a wedding that revolved around beer, then buddy, you definitely got yourself a keeper. And that's what Rebellious Bride Reyssie is.

RTW and Gorgeous

Veluz RTW 2014 Collection
from Jason Magbanua on Vimeo.

When a rebel bride dare say that she is toying with the idea of RTW, you could almost taste the uncomfortable silences, the judgmental eyes, the clearing of the throat, and the wrinkled nose. There's a stigma. And it's become the white elephant in the room. What more when you say RTW+taffeta. Oh the horror.

Enter Veluz. She's always changed the game and she's at it again. There's a reason why she's landed on the now famous Buzz Feed article on the world's most beautiful detailed gowns list. She doesn't just make beautiful gowns. Her signature in every piece is impeccable and apparent. Rebellious in the ORIGINAL, as we said earlier this week. You know her trademark and you know she's got taste. In this 2014 RTW collection, she makes the word RTW something you would want to COVET. And that's saying something. And she's also done the unthinkable. She's made taffeta, gorgeously pretty again. It's the biggest comeback ever. On a more personal note, I was NEVER, EVER a fan of white bridal gowns and every RB reader knows that. But Veluz is probably the only designer that makes me want to wear white. And again, that's saying something ;)

But having had a first-hand experience of what went on during the latter part of the shoot, what's even more admirable about Veluz is how she could get an amazing pool of artists to collaborate with her with such love, passion, and positivity. It's a testament to not only how she is as a designer, but how she is as a person. Having said that, I'd like to applaud the creative team behind the shoot--most especially to Madge Lejano who was the brainchild of the bridal looks and creative treatments. Everything felt so rebelliously beautiful. Chandeliers hanging on trees, the most unconventional of models, the AHMAZING hair and makeup that is definitely not your usual bridal looks. And the video. So many emotions!

Congrats to Veluz and the rest of the amazing team that worked on the RTW 2014 Collection Launch. Truly world class!

This is only the beginning of the launch. Don't forget to add @veluzbride on Instagram to get updated on the catalogue and creative photos from the entire collection.

Biyahe ni Drew at Iya

There's nothing quite like a
Jason Magbanua x MangoRed
tandem wedding *wink*

And there's nothing quite like the love of Iya and Drew either.

They are literally the living proof that network wars can and need to be defied. That more beauty, creativity, and rebelliousness can come out of a union this amazing.

What a way to start the morning. Jason is at it again. My heart is skipping in so many beats. The prenup...the wedding. Oh that cliff hangin', heart thumpin' ceremony venue!!!

RB Goes Gatsby, Part 2 of 3

Photography by Carlo Cecilio of ImagineNation
The Gatsby party is heating up as we take you to a journey through this fantastical second part of our 3-part RB Gatsby Special Feature. And this time around, our muse Amanda Tirol takes on the role of the charismatic, enigmatic, leading lady of the book/movie Daisy Buchanan as she models the works of The Cecilio Abad Design Team feat. Vidal Clayton

In this feature, we also finally reveal our Gatsby-worthy Anti-Reception venue location, Casa Roces Malacanan. So pop, fizz, and sizzle and enjoy!

"It's so you!", Madge Lejano tells me when Amanda comes out wearing her first Clayton gown. And I'd have to agree on that. Clayton is probably my most favorite gown designer right now--and if you've been reading the blog lately, we've been featuring a lot of his works. What's not to love? His gowns are very intricate but not too overbearing. There is a clear deviation from the typical white gowns but there is a balance between the classic and the fashion forward.

RB Goes Gatsby, Part 1 of 3

Photography by Carlo Cecilio of ImagineNation
As early as December 2012, the blog released its Fearless Forecast for 2013. Two of which were: 1) A renewed love for 20s-inspired weddings because of the Gatsby movie; and 2) New anti-reception venue discoveries.

In this 3-part special feature, we've collaborated with some of the biggest names in the wedding industry to come up with our own interpretation of how to localize a Gatsby-inspired wedding. After all, inspiration is one thing but rebelliousness always has to have its own twist and own vision.

Prom - The Road to Rebelliousness

Let's interrupt the usual wedding programming for a little bit, shall we? Poveda's 2013 Junior Prom. When wedding giants like Jason Magbanua, For You Are Mine, Madge Lejano, and hosts like The Boys of the Boys Night Out are actually part of a prom--you know this is gonna be fun, right? :)

The best-dressed of the night went to Janna Lejano, Madge's daughter. With a rebellious black Veluz gown, with Madge's amazing makeup, and with Teddy Manuel's creations on the corsage, you know know that Janna's entire look was really poised to be a sensation. Pay attention girls--you want to look awesome? You want to look different? You want to innovate? Then look to wedding artists even if your event is not a wedding.

The Ultimate Run for Love

My, how time flies by so fast. Just last year, we cited Coach Rio's proposal video as a trend to watch out for in 2012 (Back track HERE). And here we are today, ogling his and Nicole's heart-stopping Mayad trailer & wedding video.

We don't personally know Coach Rio and Nicole (my mom does though--which is soooo weird!). But Coach being one of the country's 'pambansang' icons when it comes to all things running/marathons, we feel happy for him & his equally athletic 'n awesome wife as if we were one of the bystanders rooting for the lovers to finally finish the race.

Watch their rebellious, creative, and 'oh-so-logistically massive & impressive' teaser trailer:

Rio & Nicole Trailer from Mayad Studios on Vimeo.

Separately, Mayad (with the direction of Raphael Jamil Pranga) culminated the couple's running journey  through a thematic wedding video. What's so rebellious about their wedding besides Coach Rio's usual rebellious hair? Well, watch out how the couple exits the church and the bride's sizzling preps! We are also loving Nicole's rogue lips! Another sign that our fearless 2013 forecast is on the right track :)

Rebellious Royalty Bride Amanda

Photography by Mayad Studios
Mayad titled their blog feature on Amanda & Bong as "Boracay Royalty" and we couldn't agree more. But we'd like to add the word Rebellious to that. Not only was this a 10th year renewal, the Queen of Boracay Amanda Tirol didn't know anything about it! And she wore such a fierce gown to the church at that!

Most of Amanda's former clients can really attest to the fact that she's "God's gift to Boracay Brides". Saying that she gives you all of what she's got and that she'll fight for your dream wedding would be an understatement. So to see her in her own shining moment is such a breath of fresh air indeed.

The Rebellious Family Wedding

When MangoRed flags us on their latest wedding photo set, we know it's always the perfect fit for RB---even if we haven't seen it yet. And once we do, it excites us like two little crazy kiddos haha! That's just how much we trust the gang to give us something we can sink our teeth into.

Rebellious Couple Anne & Mike's Steel & Ice Wedding

Photography by Metrophoto
A rebellious bride is a dreamer, someone who knows what she wants, someone who is different from everyone else and someone who is not afraid to be criticized. A bride that opens her mind to endless possibilities and embraces that the  extraordinary ideas will make it all worth it.

Rebellious Bride Anne Buenaobra on her definition of a Rebellious Bride

You know that a wedding is really something when everyone on the wedding team is rooting for you and your extraordinary theme. This was the case for Anne & Mike's wedding wherein from the coordinator, to the stylist, to the cake, to the photographer, everything was just so in sync! You could tell that they were all excited to bring the ideas out to the world. You could tell from Teddy Manuel's spectacular works of art, from Teena's passion for the couple and the wedding...everything just absolutely worked so well and the result? A rebellious labor of love in every sense of the word.

Here's what Anne had to say about their Steel & Ice wedding. And what I loved about her stories the most was her relationship with Teena Barretto. Enjoy!

Rebellious Brides: What was the theme/concept of your wedding and what was your inspiration behind it?

Anne: Our concept/theme is Steel and Ice--and it’s a crazy idea by Teena Barretto. Just a short story how we got to know each other. She was on vacation here in LA when we were actually looking for a wedding planner in Manila.  We drove 4 hours just to meet with her...that’s how we started our relationship with Teena.  She was doing her conceptualization and then she said, "You’re so opposites! And with your personalities, I don’t know how you guys get along so well. And to think that you guys are together na for 5 years ha! Lol"….then we decided that our wedding theme should symbolize us. How different we are but how perfectly we are able to come together. Teena said, "I visualize your wedding as Steel and Ice".

Then everything was left to Teena’s hands. Our angel!

RB: What makes you a rebellious bride?

Fun Lego Wedding Details

Photography by Topica-Mayuga Photography
Rebellious Couple Ji & Jessen are such a fun and happy couple! And they made sure that their personality will shine through in the most micro of wedding details--from their cootie catcher invitation, to their honey bee giveaways.

But another unique and fun wedding detail caught my eye. And these are their Lego-inspired boutonnieres and bridal bouquet.

Ji shares that this was actually the brainchild of her Rebel Groom Jessen.

Most wedding boutonnieres only come second to the attention given to the girls' bouquets. And usually, the bridal bouquet matches the girls' bouquets more than the boutonnieres. But for this particular wedding, hands down the boutonnieres took center stage--even the bridal bouquet got patterned after it!

I love that each Lego was specifically handpicked based on the entourage member's personality. To top it all off, each Lego was meticulously scoured in every nook and cranny --from eBay, to the U.S., and locally.

Here are some of the fun and cute boutonnieres! Enjoy looking at them as much as we did :)
