Love Wins
"Last June 26th, The US Supreme Court voted in favor of a constitutional guarantee for equal rights of same-sex marriages...That kind of recognition may never see the light of day in our country but the ruling had such a profound impact on me as I realized I was filming a gay wedding that very day I was hearing the news from the US.
"Love has won." That was the rally cry from the western hemisphere. And yes, in the end , we are all better people when love wins."

The DongYan Royal Wedding - What We Know So Far
![]() |
Photo Credit: Hola! Philippines Magazine |
Dingdong and Marian are soooooo rebellious and we just love it! What makes them rebellious? Well most celeb couples these days are very sensitive when it comes to sharing the details of their engagements and weddings (and rightfully and understandably so). But DongYan are veering away from how other celebrity brides/grooms/couples do it secretly. Instead, DongYan kept their engagement for two years so that they can revel privately. Then BOOM! Once they decided to share it with the public, they are definitely not half-assing it. They promised to be generous with the details, and they really meant it.
DongYan sweetly admits that the fans propelled them as love teams and so they recognize that the public, especially the DongYan fans deserve to be part of their wedding preps. This is such a refreshing concept considering that most celebs would rather keep mum about their wedding details.
And with the advent of social media, fans are so updated more than ever! From the time of the public proposal, 6 days after and they had a live, web-streamed press conference that announced the date and church venue of their wedding. When asked about the other details, they said that they want everything to be finalized before announcing this but in the week that followed, the royal couple posted on their IG accounts the meetings with their wedding suppliers.
So here's what we know so far based on what the couple has been sharing with us!
Wedding Agency: Rosette + Oli = Ethan's Splish Splash Wedding
Photography by Benjie Tiongco
I can still remember our client briefing with Rosette, Oli, and their son Ethan like it was just yesterday. In truth, it's been almost 3 years ago.
Our inspiration when we think of ideas for our clients can come from anywhere. In Rosette & Oli's case, our inspiration came from Ethan himself.
Rosette & Oli's wedding was to be a beach wedding in the city. Out of the three concepts that we initially proposed to them, there was one that immediately resonated with them so well--not because it was full of creative ideas but because it revolved around being a family.
True enough, when I saw their official wedding photos for the very first time, I honestly didn't even care about the creative details. What got me emotional and almost teary-eyed was the most priceless wedding element of them all---Ethan, and his relationship with his mom and dad.
Here are some snippets from their Wedding Agency Walkthrough:
The Rebels of 2012
The Bridal Entrance
I have often been asked, "What do you regret not being able to do during your wedding?"....or...."What can you advise to brides that they do on their wedding day because no one tells them to do it?" My answer to this is: make sure a friend/relative captures your bridal walk...or better yet, ask your videographer to give you a copy of the raw file of it. They may think this is tedious or an extra step--but don't you think as the bride, you deserve this?
When we featured Rebellious Bride Isoebelle's wedding, she mentioned that she picked Hoppipola for her bridal march and she insisted for their wedding aisle to have paper crane trees even if it was going to be a mega production. Because of this, we were very intrigued with her bridal entrance so we requested for a raw file of it.

We would like to thank IGS Films & Rebellious Bride Isoebelle for indulging us with this request. And we were right to request for this raw file---as expected, the bridal walk was UNREAL! Sooooo beautiful!

Rebellious Couple Isoebelle & Enzo's Suits & Paper Cranes Wedding

Rebellious Bride Isoebelle Romero
on what makes her a Rebel Bride
It's amazing how one single photo can encapsulate a day. I look at this photo of Isoebelle's bridal hair and in an instant I can already imagine that her wedding to Enzo must have been whimsical, inspired, romantic, creative but timeless atthe same time.
When Events Diva Teena Barretto tipped us on this wedding, she said that this wedding was rebellious because the bride had an all-suits entourage (mostly males & gays) and a paper crane theme. I instantly gravitated towards the all-suits, mostly gay entourage and thought that the write-up will probably just focus on this one detail. When Isoebelle emailed us her wedding photos, my heart skipped a beat and when I saw Gideon Hermosa's beautiful work, I was just in pure awe. There's just so much wonder and magic to this wedding and I won't belabor it any longer. So let's get to it! :)
Rebellious Bride: What is the story behind your all-suits, all-male/gay entourage?
Isoebelle & Enzo's Senbazuru Love Story

"I started folding paper cranes for Enzo when he went to the states for 2 months...I think that was in 2010. I wanted to surprise him with a thousand cranes when he got back--to tell him that I thought of him whenever I folded the cranes. We ended up using the cranes for our civil wedding last Feb. 11.
I also wanted to carry out this theme to our church wedding so I incorporated it in our prenup photos as well."

This has got to be one of the most meaningful prenup sessions I have ever known. Not for its creativity, not for its beauty. But simply because of the story behind it.
Rebellious Couple Anne & Mike's Steel & Ice Wedding

Rebellious Bride Anne Buenaobra on her definition of a Rebellious Bride
You know that a wedding is really something when everyone on the wedding team is rooting for you and your extraordinary theme. This was the case for Anne & Mike's wedding wherein from the coordinator, to the stylist, to the cake, to the photographer, everything was just so in sync! You could tell that they were all excited to bring the ideas out to the world. You could tell from Teddy Manuel's spectacular works of art, from Teena's passion for the couple and the wedding...everything just absolutely worked so well and the result? A rebellious labor of love in every sense of the word.
Here's what Anne had to say about their Steel & Ice wedding. And what I loved about her stories the most was her relationship with Teena Barretto. Enjoy!
Rebellious Brides: What was the theme/concept of your wedding and what was your inspiration behind it?
Anne: Our concept/theme is Steel and Ice--and it’s a crazy idea by Teena Barretto. Just a short story how we got to know each other. She was on vacation here in LA when we were actually looking for a wedding planner in Manila. We drove 4 hours just to meet with her...that’s how we started our relationship with Teena. She was doing her conceptualization and then she said, "You’re so opposites! And with your personalities, I don’t know how you guys get along so well. And to think that you guys are together na for 5 years ha! Lol"….then we decided that our wedding theme should symbolize us. How different we are but how perfectly we are able to come together. Teena said, "I visualize your wedding as Steel and Ice".
Then everything was left to Teena’s hands. Our angel!
RB: What makes you a rebellious bride?
Klassy & Eric - A Teaser
A couple of months ago, we posted Random Rebellion #12 which featured tweet tips from supahstah coordinator Teena Barretto. She was so excited to share Klassy & Eric's wedding that she was actually updating us while she was working on the wedding (now that's multitasking!) -- not to be outdone, videographer god Jason Magbanua was also tweeting us photos from this wedding! Do you guys know why? Well...this has got to be one of the most "Kate Spade-y" weddings of all time --among other quirky and drool-worthy rebellious details. We are too excited to feature this wedding already that we can't wait much longer! Here is Jason Magbanua's video of the wedding. After watching the video, read a few stories from Rebellious Bride Klassy herself :)

Rebellious Weddings of 2011
The so-called "Best Weddings of 2011" is just a disguise for "Best CELEBRITY Weddings and Best Weddings w/ High-Profiled Surnames of 2011". It's like high school all-over again. Sorry. You're just not popular enough to be the Prom King and Queen. And Sorry--you're just not royalty or a Kardashian so we don't think the Pixel Cowboy Wedding featured at Green Wedding Shoes is "best of 2011" material (notice the International references so as not to step on the local scene but we all know that this happens in our country damn too much).

"Beyond Words" is how J Lucas Reyes described it in Vatel's blog.
Dylan Gozum of Vatel agrees with J Lucas Reyes and says: "I think Rissa Mananquil's wedding to Paolo Trillo was rebellious in a way that both of them were very into the whole wedding preps, both of them had a very clear vision of how they wanted their wedding to be, and that they insisted - every step of the way - to have things done according to reflect their personalities. :-)"

So much like our own Wedding Forecast of 2012 which we made on our own, we're also listing down our own most Rebellious Weddings of 2011. How many weddings have you attended in 2011? Out of all those weddings, how many were creative/unique/rebellious? Our intention here is not to boast or to create a popularity poll. Our intention here is simply to encourage and inspire other brides to take the road less traveled. We've created various categories here as well. In some categories, you'll see past Rebellious Brides we have featured, some ideas from our own weddings as well, and from new Rebellious Brides/Weddings that we are just about to feature--again, the intention is not to boast, but to inspire so you can grab ideas---note however that we don't condone "copycats"---what we would like is for you to get inspired by the ideas so that you can make it your own. Let's start!

2. The Bridal & Entourage Swimsuits - Hindy Weber Tantoco's Bride
Upon the request of the bride, photos of their wedding are not allowed to be publicized, but according to the designer, her bride had a beach wedding, and it was the first time that she was commissioned to do maillot swimsuits for the entourage and the bride! How rebellious, fun, and fearless is that!
