RB 2013 Forecast Report: CAPIZ

In our Rebellious Brides 2013 Fearless Forecast Feature, we said something about skipping the mason jars and the other foreign influences because we have our own local artful products that we can celebrate. One of which is the Capiz. 

The Philippines is naturally abundant with Capiz shells. Capiz makes for such an elegant design element for  weddings. The great part about it is that when combined with ingenuity and taste, it can definitely look modern--and in some instances, even whimsical. 


 Together with Carlo Cecilio of Imagine Nation, we went to Cravings Il Terrazo for inspiration to create this pseudo mood board (or maybe it should be called mood blog) for you. The way Cravings' in-house designer Tina Bonoan visualized this branch is the perfect living proof of just how Capiz can be very versatile.

The Rebellious Gossip Girl Weddings

Who here can admit that their guilty pleasure is watching Gossip Girl? I know I do. And I've watched the series from the first episode and down to the very last one.

The finale wraps up with two weddings. And although we already kinda knew that Blair & Chuck would get married for sure, it was a surprise that Serena and Lonely Boy did too. But it doesn't end there. Both queen bees donned rebellious gowns and had rebellious weddings to top it off and that was even more unexpected!

The Hunger Games Parody - A Rebellious Couple's Entrance


First of all guys, I can't believe this entry went directly to our spam folder. It was submitted by Rebellious Bride Nadelyn a couple of weeks back and this is the only time we've seen it! Lesson learned folks, this happens once in a while so if you have submissions you may want to re-send it especially if you haven't received a reply from us :)

But better late than never right? I AM IN LOOOOOVE WITH THIS COUPLE'S ENTRANCE!!! I am completely blown away by the meticulous production details courtesy of Sequence by Sequence!

Heath's Personalized Proposal


"I've always found it interesting that I know you both, but from different times in my life - small world! I think what you guys are doing is awesome and I've been (secretly) following your blog for over a year now.

The good news is, I don't have to keep it a secret anymore because I'm getting married. Yay!

I just wanted to share Heath's proposal with you because I'm very proud of how he made it so personal and unforgettable. I was thinking this could be good inspiration for the boys - something out of the box, personalised, simple, sincere and super inexpensive.

Emil & Marielle's Metrofied Wedding

A couple of months ago, we featured Metrophoto's winning couple for their Metrofied 4 Life campaign (CLICK HERE TO BACKTRACK). Now, Emil & Marielle have finally tied the knot and we absolutely love their gorgeous wedding! 

From the rebellious bride's anti-white gown, to their mighty metrofied tattoos, to their one-of-a-kind balloons in the most wonderful color palette, to their uber stylish entourage, down to their oh-so-red-as-strawberry couple's booth, everything was just absolutely perfect. Here's how Oly Ruiz recounts the entire experience:

Rebellious Revenge/Grayson Wedding


Here's a treat for all you Revenge fans out there. The other day, the queen of the Hamptons Victoria Grayson renewed her vows in a gray Vera Wang gown. Her style was as always, fabulous as she adorned herself with pearls upon pearls around her neck and both of her wrists.

Victoria sure loves her parties and her invitations! Last season she had a red box invitation for Emily & Daniel's  Fire & Ice engagement party and now for her wedding she opted for the same box but this time in a chic robin's egg shade.

Rebellious Idea - Home Session

How coincidental & exciting to discover this new photo shoot session when just the other day, I told the hubb I wanted a photo shoot of our interim home! And here we are today, an uber creative home session from revolutionary architect couple, Jason & Nikki Buensalido.

We are jealous of this couple actually. There, I said it. When my hubb and I got engaged, we were initially not consumed by the wedding preps--we were actually consumed with the thought of owning our very own Sophia house in Mahogany Taguig. So consumed that we visited the site for weeks and weeks, taking our parents there hoping they would buy into the idea. So consumed that I "dorkily" brought the Sophia brochure anywhere I went. But alas, we were unsuccessful to acquire our own Sophia. So today, we bring you a very special photo shoot that Jason & Nikki did w/ Metrophoto. Not only do they own a Sophia house, Jason is actually the BRAINCHILD of this groundbreaking piece of architecture.  And after they wed, Jason together with his wife Nikki (who as mentioned, happens to be an architect as well) conceptualized on how to make a home out of their Sophia.

It's such a wonderful idea to have a photo shoot of your home. It shows how from the wedding, here you are building a nest together. And it's amazing how Jason & Nikki's portfolio of photographs have unfolded. From their prenup, to their wedding, and now their home session. Everything has come full circle. Enjoy!

Joed & Franz' Ranch+Beach Prenup

With prenups and weddings popularly being styled up to the most miniscule of details, ironically sometimes being rebellious is going for the more organic approach. Just like in Joed & Franz' prenup, their natural surroundings were so beautiful already that there was really no need to overly style it. Backed up with an amazing team, their prenup exuded taste and style that almost looked innate as opposed to overt.

Jo shares: "Not sure if this is rebellious enough, but  I just know that we wanted no props as much as possible and no picnic set-up. As a result aside from the clothes and ourselves, our only props were the horses in the shoot and the wonderful head wreath by Dylan of Vatel Manila. It was also raining cats and dogs when we were doing this shoot but J Lucas Reyes (photographer) didn't want the usual rain/wet shots because most photos that he was already seeing lately are full of this. So it was a challenge for him to maximize our dry areas. We were also thankful that towards the end, we were blessed with some golden sun! It was only 30 mins. of fast-paced photography but the results were magnificent."

The bride's sister created a behind-the-scene video for them and I think that's really sweet. And for that, it will be the main highlight of this feature. Enjoy! :)

Rebellious Idea - Of First Looks & New Rules

Well hello there, November! This month, we are starting it right with a rebellious idea....the First Look. Actually, this tradition is nothing new especially in the other parts of the globe. But in our own neck of the woods, this is almost unheard of! Why, if this idea went mainstream I can already imagine the nasty comments (and probably even faints) from our dear 'ol conservative oldies.

So when Rebellious Bride Ivy shared with us her First Look, my oh my was I impressed. I was even more impressed and touched to know that we've inspired her so much to find her 'rebelry'. Here's what Ivy had to say about her rebellious idea:

"I have been visiting Rebellious Brides for months since I started planning for my June 2012 wedding. To say that seeing on your site that there were Filipinas adapting non-traditional ideas for their weddings inspired me to be rebellious in ours is an understatement. :)

On that note, I would just like to share our First Look as covered by Noel Salazar & Jamie Lihan of Imagine Nation Photography.


I first came upon this idea a month before the wedding. I am not superstitious at all. My parents were, but they already allowed for me do a relatively intimate wedding (target guest list was 80), non-Catholic church rites, and non-matching bridesmaid outfits. So, I was sure they wouldn't have minded if we added another non-traditional idea. After all, our engagement and love story was not by any means traditional, haha!

 So, I asked my groom about this idea. He was wary at first but he also had this feeling that we will both love doing a First Look. I also asked Noel's opinion on this and he said he's only done a First Look once and would love to do another one again.


About 3 weeks before the wedding, we decided to have a First Look. We had the wedding day's timeline adjusted to have us be at the location an hour before. Everything went well.

Would You Buy A Recycled Gown?

Would you buy this gorgeous Vera Wang gown for $950 (P39,000)? The catch is, it's USED.
Had I known of this service before, then yes. Maybe I would consider buying a recycled gown. I'd buy one and get to know the previous owner. I'll try to find out about her own wedding and ask for a photo. I'd create a blog about it and call it, the sisterhood of the traveling bridal gown haha. Mica and I were so attracted to this US-based business idea called the "Recycled Bride" website so much that we even thought of creating a local version of it. But alas, based on our research, Pinay brides are not willing to give up their gowns--even if it meant it will eventually turn moldy.

Here are some of the gems I found over at Recycled Bride. And I am curious to know...are you rebellious (and practical) enough to buy a fabulous recycled bridal couture gown?

This Monique Lhuillier Geisha Gown runs in a Size 10 for $500. It is owned by a bride from Atlanta and she bought her gown for $2,800 at the Monique Lhuiller Chicago boutique. She's selling her gown because she needs the cash asap.

The bride is selling her classic cathedral Vera Wang gown made of 100 yards of tulle for only $600. The catch? She's a size 0.

The bride is selling her Monique Lhuillier Size 8 Jacqueline gown for $800. The bride asserts that her gown is in mint condition and she only wore it once during her wedding day last May. The best part is? It's a two-piece gown so you can wear the gorgeous blouse separately.
This Vera Wang gown is Size 6 and runs for $500. Apart from the fact that it is used, it is sold by a store in New York. The catch is, you can't buy it online. You have to visit their store.

Pink

Apologies for going rogue on the blog this week dears. Work has been toxic. And considering that I always find magical time to blog despite my daily busy schedule, neglecting the blog just means work has gone to full 700% crazy. 

 But despite the lag this week, it seems as though I'm just in time to report that this week has been all about the pink! And boy do we love it! 

 First on our list is Mrs. Timerlake's oh-so rebelliously pretty pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown. Yahoo made a poll out of Jessica's gown and so far, 63% are saying that they are fans of pink bridal gowns because it is something different! All hail to the rebellion!

 Coincidentally, my very first instinct after being wedding-free for the past few days was to visit Mangored's blog--and hey I was just right on the mark because their latest set features Rebellious Bride Ella who is donning a Vera Wang pink bridal gown! The gown was also wittingly combined with matching pink footwear not by the bridesmaids but the GROOMS MEN. How cute is that!
