Meet You in Morocco
It's hard to find a wedding photographer with the same level of thirst for creativity and passion quite like Metrophoto's Oly Ruiz. He and his team have elevated engagement photo shoots (among many other things) to greater heights. World-class is an understatement, as engagement photos in other countries cannot even begin to compare to his work--especially the travel-based engagement shoots that he is now so famous for. So you could say, he is in a whole new class of his own.
In Aileen and Kevin's engagement session, we are transported to a magical, mystical, and romantic adventure all over Morocco. And we loved every minute of it.
Aileen and Kevin Prenup (Morocco BTS ONLY FINAL)
from Oly Ruiz on Vimeo.
Oly shares:
Morocco has captivated many movies that were filmed here such as Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and the most-awesome American fantasy-drama series, Game of Thrones.
We always make it a point to come up with the most unique and elegant photographs, and Morocco simply served that to us in a silver platter – well almost. Despite being one of the most picturesque locations in the world, Marrakech is also one of the most strict when in comes to photoshoots. Right off the bat or should I say, at the airport, my drone was confiscated and this was a first of many encounters we had where either our portable lights were not allowed or even our DSLR cameras.
Everything in Morocco is attractively unusual. Aileen and Kevin poised their first photoshoot at the Menara Garden, a great landscape lined with olive trees. The background is a large pond at the foot of a pavilion that serves as a water reservoir of the city to irrigate crops. We didn’t waste time and they bravely climbed on top of The Koutoubia Mosque right away. And within a couple of minutes, someone was already asking us to get them to go down.
After the garden, we used the natural setting of the city with its market and the restaurants around it – if you watched the movie Allied then that is where the place took you. We got into a little discourse with the security people at the Bahia Palace because as we already expected, they didn’t want the lights and cameras brought in. This was the location when I had to improvise, so I borrowed a point and shoot camera from the Aileen’s sister – a point and shoot!
Amazingly, with very little instructions Aileen and Kevin immaculately graced the pristine palace of Bahia, adorned with its fascinating architecture and ceilings. It is completely a gem of experience and I love how the couple made the most out of the situation. From Marrakesh, we headed to the Atlas Mountain for a quick shoot and then traversed the endless-like roads to Sahara for 12 hours long. It was scenic but time consuming; there are just too many things to do. We again had to improvise when it comes to time management so we maximized the day trip on a spontaneous photoshoot which included the one in the Draa Valley that has thousands of years’ history. This was once a shelter of the ancestors the Moroccans or the “Berbers” and still now their living oasis.
We were supposed to arrive before sunset at the Sahara Desert but by nightfall we were still on the road. It was pitch black when we arrived at the Bur-Bur camp in the desert. It felt like we’re in the ancient Arabian nights – there was no electricity and water but that didn’t stop us to take more photos, I was actually inspired to do a night desert shoot instead. We had a few of shots around the tents and a bonfire and the moon provided amazing mood lights for the shoot.
Now the most “ethereal” part of our journey is the shoot the next day with the camels in the middle of the desert – which was extremely stunning despite of the heat. Aileen and Kevin marked their every step on the sand with grace and passion as seen on the photos and I couldn’t be prouder of them. It was like movie magic but everything is just happening in the raw right before our eyes. The last stop of the photoshoot was at Ait Benhaddou where we capped one stunning location after another.
I adore Aileen and Kevin’s enthusiasm and go-get-it attitude, they didn’t let any setbacks affect us negatively but rather used them to push further. They were both amazing and that made the Morocco shoot truly one of the best I ever had in terms of experience and photographs. Shukraan jazilaan! to both Aileen and Kevin for making such a once-in-a-lifetime experience not just possible but extremely meaningful as well.

Metrophoto in Iceland
Hello, Rebels! To some of you who probably religiously follow the blog, you would know that we love...LOVE..Iceland. (Backtrack here: My Icelandic Rebel Love). We blogged about this country in 2015 and in that post, we were already planning another trip for 2016 (more on this 2016 trip soon). That's how much we loved this place. So when we first saw the teaser photos of Metrophoto's Iceland shoot with their couple Margaux and Francis, we couldn't have been more thrilled to see the final set.

You only need to Google "engagement photos" to see what conventional engagement photos look like. Basically you'll get prom-like lovey dovey, cheesy photos that are set in gardens and other natural scenery. Worse, some photos are not even of good quality. And while there's completely nothing wrong with those types of engagement photos, you really have to hand it to Philippine wedding artists (and couples) for daring to push the envelope. Because if you haven't known this already, Philippine-made engagement photos/concepts are outstandingly innovative, compelling, and can even be unnerving at times.
Over the past six years, we've seen how engagement photos have evolved. And we understand why most Filipinos not only would want to have an engagement session, but would be compelled to make it big, bold, and beautiful. On the part of the couples, the allure of a crazy prenup might stem from the fact that Philippine Weddings are traditional, strict, and conventional--oftentimes dictated by parents. And so an outrageous engagement session gives the couples a chance to kind of have fun and show their rebellious side. It balances things out, so to speak. On the other side of the spectrum, wedding artists like to do these creative sessions because it helps them to build a relationship with their couples before the wedding and at the same time, it keeps their creative juices running full as it can often get drained by the weekly repetitive grind of covering church weddings.
Here we have 20 engagement sessions that show you just how "Out of this World" engagement shoot concepts in the Philippines can get. Sometimes the ideas come from the couples themselves to reflect their personalities or to reflect their love story. And on the other times the e-session ideas are proposed by the wedding team themselves to fulfill a creative fantasy project. Seriously 20 examples are not even enough! And just a disclaimer, this is not a contest or a ranking of the top e-sessions out there. Instead, this is a collective appreciation of how Philippine wedding artists and couples have creatively grown through the years. So here they are. Which one is your favorite?

Rockstud Romance
LJ wreaks of being a Rebellious Bride. We don't have to know for a fact if she's really a reader. We just know she is. Okay don't fail us here. You really are, aren't you LJ? Haha.
Regardless if this is something we can verify or not, one look at her wedding to Ejay and you'll know that they do belong here in RB.
Simply Toni & Paul
Toni and Paul's wedding was clearly rebellious in so many ways. We'd probably call it an "un-celebrity wedding". From the fact that the bride did her preps at home, to her understated Vera Wang gown (that seemed to transform its colors into a pale kind of blush when hit by the perfect lighting), to how the bride was so secure of herself that she didn't seem to mind sharing the limelight with her maid-of-honor and sister, to the fact that the main entourage consisted of both the couple's immediate families, to Toni's very original grand bridal entrance, to the very fact that they chose Metrophoto to do their wedding photography, oh we could go on and on and on. But those are mostly the 'superficial' ways this wedding could be classified as creative and downright rebellious.
On a deeper level, this was so different because this was a couple who seemed to have defied many impressions. It was also a wedding that focused on the two most important things often overlooked by all the hullabaloo that goes on in a wedding: the ceremony and the people who witness it.
So cheers to Toni and Paul. Like every other couple, this day was about love and taking the leap of faith. But unlike other couples, this was a wedding that definitely didn't conform - a reflection of how rebelliously perfect they really are together.
Toni & Paul - Art Will Save The World
Here in Rebellious Brides, we are anti-conformists (obviously). Therefore it is a conscious effort NOT to feature mainly just celebrities and popular personalities to glorify them. We only feature a select few. And when we do feature these famous celebs, it's because they've rebelled one way or another. And that's why Toni & Paul are featured today. So what makes them "rebellious?"
One word. METROPHOTO.
Metrophoto Captures The City of Smiles
While most people think the word originated from the word mask, the word "MassKara" is actually a portmanteau of Filipino and Spanish words created by the late artist Ely Santiago which literally translates to a mass of faces. It's also considered a pun on the word "Mascara"--that Filipinos put on a mask of smiling faces during the Spanish colonisation.
The fiesta is a massive annual celebration with parades, street dances, a showcase of local food, and so much more. Every year the masks and celebrations change and evolve but it's always about the vivid colors and the local artistry.
To be able to pull off an engagement shoot in a fiesta of this size is quite unbelievable. Surely, only a rebellious couple would consider it. And Melissa and Wed are definitely of the rebel kind.
No less than our very own Rebellious Bride Mica was part of the team that pulled-off this shoot as the bride's makeup artist. That alone is an indication that this Metrophoto shoot has RB written all over it.
RB Mica Shares:
When I first knew about the Masskara prenup, I got excited! I already knew that it was going to be rebellious. This was C-R-A-Z-Y! We had to follow the moving parade during the shoot. It was very challenging but totally worth it.
The Rebellion Hits 2 Million
RB MICA:
This blog of ours is grounded on love. It all started because we found the love of our lives and it (the blog) saw us through a lot of milestones and (mis) adventures in a span of four years. It started because we had an insane amount of passion for weddings. It started because we simply love to be there for brides who were like us. The unlikely princesses who refuse to wear the glass slippers and wear Melissa shoes instead. We are surviving, breathing, because of love. And we send it all back to all you, all 2 million views. Love and good vibes and gratitude for keeping the love alive for Rebellious Brides.
Cuba in Manila
Metrophoto has changed the game for engagement photos. Not just in Manila but even for the rest of the world. I mean who freakin' hires on-cam talents just to stage a story? Who does that?!? Oly will do everything he can to evolve the craft--to remold wedding photography in a way that moves his couples to do crazy things--rebellious things, if you think about it. To be completely honest my husband and I never had a prenup during our time--because we thought it was soooo cheesy and we didn't think it was necessary. Now if these crazy ideas of Oly were already available 5 years ago, maybe we would have considered--especially my husband. Because apart from Metrophoto's badass prenup "evolution" what makes it even more unique is the fact that it makes the grooms cool and manly. And that's something that always seems so awkward with some of the usual prenup shoots--it makes the guys feel silly and it makes them feel secondary. Oly never does that. He meticulously and thoughtfully celebrates both the bride AND the groom.
Metrophoto was able to magnify Jazz and Archie's love with so much color, passion, and life. The result is a story of a couple, as vibrant as a mash-up of Cuba and Manila.
Rebellious Bunch: Boracay Weddings/Amanda Tirol
To be honest, there is not enough photographs and videos that can capture just how brilliant Boracay weddings are in the hands of Amanda Tirol (Boracay Weddings). But we will try.

"We are proud that we’ve significantly stretched the limitations of how pre-wedding photoshoots are done and we hope that this also paves the way to more people thinking big and outside of the box."

Welcome to the Wicked World of Rebellious Brides
Hello rebels--old and new! Have you noticed anything new lately? *wink* *wink*
The blog just had a face lift!!!! Hooray! A bit long overdue, don't you agree?
Anthony + Glenn
During the peak of the phenomenal GMA primetime show "My Husband's Lover," RB Mica and I were supposed to do a shoot of a gay prenup--alas, it didn't materialize. And a year later? Here's Oly, fulfilling our dream concept--and it's a fist bump.
