A Secret Submission For My Wife

Dear Rebellious Brides,

You probably get close to no emails from grooms but I want to do this for my wife. During our entire wedding preparation, we have abused your website through and through. From discovering our suppliers to wedding tips to just simply getting inspiration to the most important day of our lives. She does not know I sent this submission...Also, we found Bob Nicolas on your website....Since then, we never looked at any other videographer other than Bob. So if our wedding will end up in your website, I think my wife would faint. Haha! I'm trying my luck since our civil anniversary is coming up and I know this is what she (secretly) wants.

But featured or not, we thank you for putting this website. It greatly helped us and calmed my wife during her most stressful times.

More power!
July

Welcome to the Wicked World of Rebellious Brides

Hello rebels--old and new! Have you noticed anything new lately? *wink* *wink*

The blog just had a face lift!!!! Hooray! A bit long overdue, don't you agree?

Reyssie & JR's Beer Fest Wedding

"One Love, One Heart, One Beer."

If you find a woman who is rebelliously game enough to have a wedding that revolved around beer, then buddy, you definitely got yourself a keeper. And that's what Rebellious Bride Reyssie is.

Rebellious Photography

There are photos that kind of make you go..."that's cool", or "that's beautiful", or even "goodness too much editing!". But then there are photos that make you want to know more about the story behind it. That you know the subject and the artist behind the lens are trying to make a statement. Photos that kind of stir an emotion inside of you. Being rebellious is self taught. It's not something you impose on yourself because it makes you look cool. It's organic. Same thing with photography. Rebellious Photography. The likes of Rebellious Bunch - Toto Villaruel. Let me tell you why he's the kind of photographer we'd like our readers to consider. He doesn't need to sponsor celebrity weddings. He doesn't have to overly edit photos. He doesn't have to create fancy packages. It's just really about the priceless photos he can produce.

Our dear rebellious brides, when it comes to styling your entourage, please don't fall into the same mistakes as previous brides have done in the past.

The truth is, friends and family just love you so much that even if they don't feel confident and comfortable wearing the gown you have chosen for them, they just don't tell you (at least not to your face). They simply don't want to hurt you even if their own egos and confidence are getting hurt.

Even if you are the bride and it's your special day to shine, make your entourage happy and pretty--don't make them feel fat, or ugly or broke.

We're not saying you are intentionally doing so--but you MIGHT be unknowingly doing it--especially when you are model-esque and look good in anything--well sister--not everyone does.

Here are some mishaps that have been shared with us via direct messages by previous entourage members, and later on we will provide some suggestions on how to style your entourage pretty.

1. Please don't choose unflattering styles. Thin, sexy brides fall into this trap all the time--they think everyone else has a rockin' body and would look fab in dresses that don't look exactly nice to some. Remember that some girls wanna accentuate while some girls want to hide a body part. Learn to put yourselves in your friends' shoe. REBEL X says: "How would YOU feel if you were forced to wear an empire cut gown that makes you look preggers?"

REBEL X: "NEWSFLASH! Loose dresses look good on stick-figure models. We're not models. Don't let us wear dresses that make us look preggers" (lifted from: stylefrizz.com)

"A rebellious bride to me, should not let tradition or expectation from others get in the way of what she truly wants."

Rebellious Bride Kim Morales-Healey on her definition of a Rebellious Bride

Here in Rebellious Brides, we don't mind featuring weddings that have been published elsewhere--especially if it is a rebellious wedding from the Philippines that has been featured in a foreign blog. To us, it's not so much on whether the content is old or new, but rather, it's about unfolding a new side of the wedding story.

Photos by myPhotato

This is the case with Rebellious Bride Kim, whose rebellious beautiful Cuban wedding got featured in Destination Inspirations (Click here for related article). And a bride who--get this---wore a Mantilla veil (YEY! Click here for related article).

Rebellious Bunch Toto Villaruel featured on Destination Inspirations!

There's a different sense of pride when a Filipino wedding talent crosses over and gets a blog feature in the International scene. Rebellious Brides is a strong advocate of this. In fact, we personally share our weddings in foreign blogs not because we are narcissistic but genuinely because we want the world to know that Philippines is oozing with so much talent in the wedding arena.

When a wedding is asked to be featured in a foreign blog, it's such an honor because they are much more discriminating in terms of the photography quality. Rebellious Bunch Mango Red and Filipina/Singapore-based photographer Josephine Sicad for instance, are regulars in Rock 'n Roll Brides and it makes us feel giddy for them because inevitably our country in general gets recognized POSITIVELY.

So when we found out that Rebellious Bunch Toto Villaruel's photos recently graced worldwide-based blog Destination Inspirations, we went "WOOT!" To be featured in a blog like Destination Inspirations is so important for our country because this blog curates wedding venues from all over the world. In effect, not only do we get to promote our wedding innovators, we also get to promote "More Fun in the Philippines". Because of this wedding feature, other Philippine-based artists have been recognized as well, including Rebellious Bunch Vatel and Rebellious Bunch Passion Cooks.

Flowers from Vatel, Styling/Catering from Passion Cooks, and Photos from Toto Villaruel were all featured in Destination Inspirations! Go Pinoy!

Visit the feature by clicking any of the photos above. A special shout-out to Toto: Congrats on this feature! Clap clap clap!!!

On a sidenote, I think the bride is also an RB reader. I distinctly remember Kim leaving a comment in our How to Fight the Veil article :)

Boracay Weddings Decoded

Newly engaged couple Karym and Mabeth
by J Lucas Reyes in Filmtastic

"Karym and I are planning to have a beach wedding (preferably Boracay since that place holds a special spot in our hearts). But we don't know where to start (I guess like all other newly engaged out there... ;)

Is it okay if I/we talk to you about how you made your wedding happen? Nahihilo ako just thinking about the things we need to figure out: wedding reception, entourage, wedding coordinator, caterer, flowers, music..and though I've worked in Bora, I don't know the local wedding businesses there :D We would appreciate any help...thank you!"

Love,
Mabs & Karym

"Life's a Beach in Boracay" by Wedding Guide Asia
Once in a while, I get questions on how to plan a wedding in Boracay. And although I don't claim to be an expert (because the real Boracay expert and Boracay Queen is Amanda Tirol), my dream was always to have a wedding in Boracay. I make it a point to go to the island at least once a year because I am just so in love with it! And if there's one thing I can advice to future Boracay brides-- advice from family, friends, wedding resources are aplenty--but with Boracay being Boracay, if there are people who can really understand and help you, it's ex-Bora brides who have gone through what you are about to go through.

So here are some of the things that I have "decoded" about planning a Boracay wedding. While most of these ideas come from my own wedding, most of the ones I will share here are also things that I learned along the way, which I hoped I knew before. So here goes!

Rebellious Brides to the Rescue!

We have come to help you save your wedding! :)
http://www.themarysue.com/
We've received another wonderful email from one of our rebellious readers and we'd like to reply with a special blog post :)

Here are snippets from her email:

Honestly, at first, my fiance and I were having second thoughts to hold our wedding in Boracay because of financial issues. But a beach wedding has been our dream wedding ever since plus our love story began in Boracay. So the place has a sentimental meaning to us. After canvassing rates in resorts in Boracay, my heart almost fell when we found out that it is way beyond our budget. (We already have 3 kids, so budget wise, we really need to squeeze it). Then 1 evening, while crying out of frustration, I came across your happymonthsary.net blog, I SWEAR YOUR BLOG IS HEAVEN SENT!!! It enlightened me so much, that after reading it, my fiance and I became firm with our decision, that we will hold our wedding in Boracay.....

Didi Paterno-Magpali, on one of her tips for the Rebellious Brides

Last week, we featured Rebellious Groom Duane. This time around, we present to you his equally Rebellious Bride, Didi, creator of the blog Loving the Distance.

Rebellious Groom - Duane

All photos by Toto Villaruel

Have you ever met a groom who didn't care about the so-called "dress code" for a church wedding and wore a pair of laidback slacks,a white polo shirt, and customized Nike shoes?

Have you ever met a groom, who would insist on the iconic Darth Vader soundtrack, "The Imperial Death March" as the entourage music?

Have you also met a groom, who, despite being a thousand miles away from his fiancee, would make sure to check up on the wedding preps, wanted to see the trial make-up photos, and was even game to actually HOST in their own reception?

Only Duane, I tell you. And that's what makes him, a Rebellious Groom.

The rebellious one

A rebellious bride is a visionary! Imagines what she likes and makes it real. The rebel who’s confident to make her ideas and creativity work and doesn’t care what others have to say… because it’s her wedding ☺ A rebellious bride is the true bride, someone who is not afraid to show how crazy they are! :D she’s an artist inside and out! :)
