Ian & Shy's Intimate Batanes Wedding

It was the perfect culmination of their love story. Because in a lot of ways, Batanes which was the venue for Ian and Shy's wedding, symbolized their journey. Batanes is one of the most beautiful, but most difficult destinations to have a wedding. Insanely expensive airfares, erratic weather, and low inventory of accommodations make it an elusive travel choice. But it is one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines (and perhaps in the world) and that it why it is often in people's bucket lists. Indeed, once you have set foot in Batanes, there's a sense of accomplishment, a "high" you just cannot explain

The Details That Matter

When you look at Pao & Den's Ian Cruz Wedding Video, you might ask me why we chose to feature it in the blog--the wedding doesn't seem rebellious in the most obvious of details. But it did in the details that mattered.

It was in the way that Ian told the story--and how he best captured it with the bride. It was in the sweetest, most creative proposal. It was in the groom--not only in his outfit but in his own little quirks (including fake-tripping in the video). It was in the beautiful bride not just her fabulous gowns but in how she professed her love. It was in the perfect setting, in the most perfect cone in the world as the backdrop. Enjoy!

The Bride's message to Ian:

Chad & Hi-C's Jologs Pa-Soshal 90s Wedding--In Other Words, Throwback Wedding!

"So it was made. That we will wear sophisticated (more of like pa-soshal) clothes but we’ll not lose our “normal” selves. Thus, we had come up with a jologs with a bit of pa-soshal wedding. And what would be more jologs than the 90’s era? So, give way for a 90’s themed wedding."

There's nothing quite like a couple who's bold enough to make fun of themselves...and their wedding. The bride already explains their wedding all too well so let's start!

The Brunch & Church Wedding #Throwback

Photography by J Lucas Reyes unless labeled otherwise

June 4, 2011 - 10ish in the morning - Cafe 1771

My good friend Nins and I were looking at the fun scene that surrounded us. It was a couple of hours before my church wedding and there we were drinking wine, doing brunch, dressed to the nines a'la Gossip Girl, and having a shoot with Ian Cruz and J Lucas Reyes. I called myself a 'rebellious bride' and Nins said: "Why don't you and Mica make a blog out of that?". "Maybe," I replied. At that time Mica and I didn't think much of it. But then a couple of weeks after June 4, something happened and I told Mica we should go ahead and do it.

The church wedding that my mother wanted us to do, used to be a sensitive topic. My husband and I actually felt hurt knowing that my parents couldn't accept our Boracay wedding as a real wedding just because it wasn't in a church. We thought this was pretty absurd. The church wedding was actually my mom's wedding. I got frustrated at first but then I realized that I was not a child that can just be 'dealt with'. So instead of moping, I quickly turned this around and positivized it--I created a theme, and I was to have a brunch with my friends 5 hours before the wedding.

So in celebration of our brunch/church wedding's 2-year anniversary, I would like to formally blog about it here in RB, and share some of the rebellious ideas we did on that day.

The Brunch

"We get by with a little help from our friends"--they were our sources of happiness and positive vibes so we wanted to capture this moment in a video that we collaborated with Ian Cruz Films. After Ian shared this video, a lot of his couples asked him if it would be possible to do the same on their wedding day. While this is a great idea, keep in mind that we really prepped for the brunch. It means you'll also have to adjust your schedules to squeeze it in.

The Portraits

When we first met w/ J Lucas Reyes and explained to him about the brunch, he shared with us a story of his Australian couple who wanted their loved ones to be individually photographed during their wedding because it was tradition. We loved this idea so we thought of doing the same for our friends. Souvenir gifts are fleeting---if you can actually share the limelight w/ your loved ones and have them photographed as well, this is a wonderful gift that would be treasured forever.

The Wedding Films of Ian Cruz

It's been awhile since we've been able to "stop by" and check out what's new from one of our fave videographers, Ian Cruz. An all-around nice guy, there's always something to look forward to from his body of work--especially when he does Indian weddings.

Here are some of my latest faves from his films. Enjoy! :)

The Rebels of 2012

We zeroed in on the love-filled ideas. Here are the purely rebellious (but beautiful in its own perceived 'oddity') weddings, brides, artists, ideas, and milestones that were featured in RB in 2012.

Mik & Paula humbly say that they are not quite rebellious. Not rebellious? Let's see....they kept the wedding details under wraps, the bride confidently asserted herself and leveled with her mom when needed, an Akon song as the bridal march, allowed the entourage to wear their own gowns, flower bags as bouquets, required vodka shots before entering the reception, a ceiling that literally dramatized the "Midnight Skies & Pink Sunsets" theme we conceptualized for them, a textured cake that unbelievably looks unreal, traditions done "on-the-side" w/o forcing guests to watch them, a wedding documentary instead of the usual love story avp,  the wackiest but most emotional surprises in between. Even the priest they got was the coolest and funnest officiator I have ever witnessed performing a church ceremony! Not rebellious? You've got to be kidding me.

RB Mica and I will never ever forget Mik, Paula, and their wedding. They are our VERY FIRST clients for The Wedding Agency. The trust and confidence that they have given to us is just priceless.

Perhaps the reluctance to call themselves rebellious comes from the fact that there were still a lot of classic elements in their wedding. But that's just it. The brief that was given to us was that they wanted a "classy but makulit" wedding--just like the couple's personalities. Like a romantic comedy film, it was the perfect balance of the sweet and the sense of humor. Mik & Paula's wedding concept, is just proof that the classic and the rebellious can coexist together--just like when the midnight sky blends with the pink sunset--you get an absolutely, breathtaking, spectacular piece of heaven.

When Mik & Paula came to us, they were literally starting from scratch. There were only 2 things that they were sure of: the fact that it had to be a super fun wedding, and that the colors were going to be midnight blue and pink. But when we went through the process of "insighting" (a process commonly used in advertising when you dig deeper to find the sweet spot of your target market), that's when we discovered that Mik & Paula are just like a Romantic Comedy film. So we built on that.
When we saw these amazing photos, we knew right then that we have found the perfect mood we were looking for.

Mik & Paula, a Story of a Boy Meets Girl--are about to star in their own Rom Com entitled:

and you should know upfront, that this one has a happy ending...

Here are just some of the things we conceptualized for the couple
that were part of their walkthrough:

We've given the couple a whole slew of recommended wedding artists. Eventually, here were the artists we suggested that they inevitably decided on:

The Year That was Twenty Eleven

You know how each and every station, and all the other media outfits for that matter, counts down the best of 2011? So allow us to indulge a little bit as Mica and I look back at the best of 2011--at least in our own personal books! ;)

Brunch/Shoot Etiquette 101

I have heard from our Brunch/Second Wedding videographer, Ian Cruz, that ever since our Brunch video hit the web, that he's gotten numerous inquiries if his clients can execute a similar treatment. In fact, he even got an inquiry as far as Hong Kong to do the same video we did. On the other hand, Cafe 1771 has also received a lot of inquiries if couples can do a similar prenup session and they give the restaurant our video as reference.

While this flatters me, Ian, and the restaurant, here are some basic things you should know about that shoot, and in turn, some basic prenup etiquette to consider if you want to do your prenups in a restaurant:

Hop on aboard at The Greenery!

The moment I saw this enchanting wedding venue in Bulacan in one of Ian Cruz' wedding videos, and now in J Lucas Reyes' wedding photos, I have been drawn to it. The train immediately transported me to a Harry Potter scene, as if I were off to Hogwarts (watch the train in action from the Ian Cruz video found below). The name of the place is The Greenery. And I super want to visit it someday, and perhaps do a shoot.

According to Ian, the place was specifically created just for weddings! The place looks absolutely wonderful and dreamy. Here are some photos from their official website, photos from an actual wedding from J Lucas Reyes, and the Ian Cruz video.

Rebellious Idea - Moulin Rouge Wedding

REBELLIOUS IDEA - R + J WEDDING
----------------

In college, one of the wedding themes that I thought of and dreamed of, was a Baz Luhrman Moulin Rouge wedding. Not only did I love that movie, I thought it made for a very dramatic, romantic, and crazy wedding theme full of bohemian details mixed in with a lot of Montmarte rebelliousness and excessiveness, and of course "love--overcoming all obstacles". If a Moulin Rouge theme is something that appeals to you as well, here are some ideas that might pump you up :)

The Birth of Something Totally Rebellious

A little bit of perspective is in order. I truly believe, that to fully appreciate something, whatever it may be, it is important to know the insights and stories behind it. So, for better appreciation on why we were suddenly compelled to create this blog, let's read this:

On Feb. 15, 2011 and on June 4, 2011, I got married twice (a third on the way), and called myself a "Rebellious Bride", and the results were a little something like this:

The Brunch by Ian Cruz

Mica on the other hand, is getting married this September in a "secret, undisclosed" venue. All I know is that her wedding is inspired by The Little Rascals and that Mica and Marc (her fiance), came out with a wicked prenup shoot w/ ultimate Rebellious Gang, MangoRed.
